It’s good advice, if you can take it

Jun 11, 2011 · by Sean

I just spent the past 1o minutes drafting a Debbie Downer post. Poor me, I’m lonely, nobody calls, I have no friends.

And then I thought, “Who wants to read this bullshit?”

The fact is, we are all busy. We all have work and family obligations or large projects that never seem to get finished, piles of laundry or unwashed dishes. But even through all the busyness, we all need to try to keep in mind that there may be someone out there wondering why you don’t call. Why don’t you text or email them anymore? What did they do to deserve being ignored?

So I ask: Have you lost touch with someone you really enjoy? Or have you met someone recently that you would like to be better friends with? Set up a time to get together. You never know, they may be feeling the same way. And if they don’t respond, just treat it as a learning experience and move on.

Life is to short to sit and wait for life to happen.

(P.S.) Wouldn’t it be great if I took my own advice? But I don’t. Damn Debbie Downer gets me every time. Wah, wah, waaaaa…

I have been in that same place before too, wondering why they don’t call anymore or want to hang out. It is good advice to make the move and call them instead of waiting for them to call you. Hope one day you will listen to your own advice.

I hope I can take my own advice, too. It really gets discouraging sometimes.

I have the same issue. I’m a Debbie Downer, too. Glad to know I’m not alone. Maybe we can be Debbie Downers together, and thus transform into Debbie Uppers?

Kind of like two negatives make a positive? Sounds like a plan to me!

Great post! Heading out with some new friends tonight. I am tired, husband just got back from out of town, it would be so easy to cancel. Nope not gonna do it. You are so right. Gotta make the effort!

We rarely get invites by other couples. It seems like we just don’t click with other couples and when we do, they are too busy to fit us in. Keeping my chin up though.

I feel the same. Life and people get so busy these days we forget to take the time to spend with friends. It’s a shame. I get down about it too until I pick up the phone and call and organize something. Someone has to!

It really does take effort. I actually forgot to make that effort twice this weekend so I will spend quite a bit of time on the phone this evening making up for it!

Your right. I was just thinking about calling a friend yesterday and didn’t because she hasn’t called me in a while. I should just call her. Thanks for the kick in the rear! 🙂

Seriously wish you lived closer. But, since you don’t we will stay in contact through social media! I already feel like we could be best of friends, weird? I dont know. Like you said, some people just “click.”
