City girl gets some country time

Jul 15, 2013 · by Sean

CW and I aren’t particularly close to our families. We both have our own reasons – I’ll save that for another blog post. But we try to get Ava some quality family time as often as we can. A few weeks ago, she met her grandpa for the first time. She’s almost seven. It’s sad that it took this long, but what makes up for it is how much they enjoyed each other. He watched her overnight while we met some friends from Krewe of Rocckus out in Indianapolis. When we came back the next morning, we found her sitting on the couch with grandpa hand feeding her a cinnamon roll. Seriously. That pretty much sums up her week in Indiana. Ha!

Not only did she get to meet grandpa, she also got to spend time with her uncle Pete and her cousins at their house in the country. She also got to meet their dog, Phoebe. Or Fifi as Ava called her.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a little girl love a dog this much. Or a dog love a little girl this much. It was the sweetest thing I’ve seen in a really long time. It was hard to tell which one of them was enjoying play time more. I kind of think it was Phoebe. What a sweet, happy dog! Considering that I kind of hate dogs, that means a lot coming from me.

The country really suited Ava and I could see that she has a lot of love to give to a dog. Maybe one day we’ll get her one. And maybe one day we’ll have some pretty property like this somewhere.

Who knew Indiana was this pretty? The whole area looked like Webster’s dictionary’s depiction of ‘bucolic.’ Around every turn was another early 20th century farm house. Pretty Victorians and Colonials with some mid-centuries thrown in for good measure. It was peaceful and so incredibly green.

Overall it was an awesome trip and Ava had a great time. Despite the fact that she got her tooth kicked out by some kid on a trampoline, I think it was one of her favorite vacations. The tooth was loose anyway. :-)

Have you had an unexpectedly amazing vacation lately? Would love to hear about it!
