When the parent-kid power struggle turns hilarious

Apr 12, 2013 · by Sean

Ava in the bluebonnets

At the Wilson house, our dinner time conversation usually consists of:

Me: “Eat your (insert vegetable name) now!”

Ava: “But they are DISGUSTING!”

Me: “I don’t care, eat them anyway.”

“You are mean.”

Me: “Go to your room!”

*Stomping upstairs* *Slamming of door*

Yeah, that’s pretty typical here. But sometimes, hilarity happens. Here’s how it went down tonight:

Ava: “Momma, I think my belly is getting bigger.”

Me: “I think you are beautiful, Ava.”

Ava: “No, look at it (lifts her shirt). It’s bigger.”

Me: “Well, you eat a lot of junk food so maybe we should think about changing that.”

Ava: “What is junk food?”

Me: “Well, mostly kid food – pizza, hamburgers, sweets, Cheetos.” (She’s a freak for a good Cheeto)

Ava: “Oh, so do you eat a lot of junk food, then?” (She says as she stares at my stomach).

And then we both start laughing hysterically. She was completely kidding. She told a quick-witted joke and we both thought it was hilarious. That kid slays me. And I will be getting back on the treadmill tomorrow.
