I’m considering attending BlogHer ’11. I’ve been to many conferences for work, but never one for something I truly enjoy. Even though I’m new to this blogging thing, I really do like it. Of course, I stress about what to write all the time. Mostly I just think I sound repetitive or moronic. I’d probably lose tons of readers if I posted half the stuff I write. And by tons I mean at least two of you because there are only about five of you. But I digress…
Why do I want to attend BlogHer? Well, I’m glad you asked.
First, I’ve never been to San Diego. Except from that scene at the beginning of “Three’s Company,” I know nothing of the city. Of course, I know they are actually at the LA County Zoo, but I always thought it was the one in San Diego. I do know that those roommates looked like they were loving the hell out of that zoo and it’s made me want to go to San Diego all these years, even though it is in LA. Whatever. Attending this conference seems like a great reason to go there and check out this city I know nothing about, but always loved.
Second, I think I could actually be successful at blogging, whatever that means. Ever since I won 2nd place in the Texas Region II Ready Writing UIL competition in the third grade (the only trophy I’ve ever won – Ha!), I’ve loved writing. I never thought I would be writing for a living, but that’s what I’ve been doing since 2002. The thought of going it alone, not writing for an actual corporation, is exciting. BlogHer seems like the perfect place to inspire me to achieve greatness. Ok, so that’s probably unrealistic, but I could at least achieve above average mediocrity.
Third, since jumping on Twitter, I have found such a wonderfully supportive community of like-minded people. It’s amazing, really. Everywhere you turn there is someone who gets it, who’s been there and who’s genuinely supportive. I know a lot of people are in business of some kind and there’s an agenda, but the fact that everyone makes an effort to reach out really means something. How much fun would it be to get to learn from and hang out with all of you? I can’t wait to find out!
I haven’t registered nor booked any travel for this yet, but I hope to soon. Are you going? Have you been? What can you tell me about it? Please, dish!!
I have never been to a blogging conference before and I am fairly new to blogging but I decided to go to BlogHer and I bought my ticket last month. I think it will be a great way to meet people and learn more so if you can go I would say that you should.
Well, if I go I’ll stalk you – Ha! Honestly though, I may actually make it to this one. Tix on Southwest aren’t too bad right now. But I wonder if there will be something closer to Houston soon?
I want to go, too, but I think it’s going to be too expensive for me. Last year, it was in New York, so I could easily drive and stay with my sister-in-law. This year, I’d have to buy a plane ticket and book a hotel, and that just seems like too much money. Plus, I’ve never been to San Diego (dying to go!) so don’t know if I’d want to spend time at a conference instead of seeing the sights. Yeah, it just doesn’t seem in the cards….
Even sharing a hotel room doesn’t make enough of a dent in the cost, really. I’m not sure I’ll go to this one yet. I may do some investigating to see if there will be any similar conferences closer to Houston. Even New Orleans is driving distance.
I’d love to go but every year there’s always so much going on and I can’t. If it ever comes to Texas, I’m so there!
If it ever comes to Texas, we will totally carpool!
I’d love to go, but the finances shut it down. I definitely think it can be a great experience if you go into it with a game plan. I’ve heard many folks get overwhelmed and wind up not blogging any longer, but you seem to have a goal to focus on.
I went to BlogHer ’08 in San Francisco. It was a blast. If you can swing it, I highly recommend going.
Love the Three’s Company reference, by the way. Here via a comment on MomSpark. Welcome to the community.
Hi Jenny! Thanks for stopping by. I hope to get into more blogging communities like MomSpark.
